Berlin Little League fans were treated to a summer to remember in 2014. For the first time in league history, Berlin claimed TWO State Championship Banners, in the Minors (9-10) as well as the Intermediate League.
Both State Championships represented Berlin in Regional tournaments.
The 9-10’s traveled to Cranston, Rhode Island where they faced some extremely tough competition. Berlin’s deep pitching staff was not able to stay ahead of the heavy hitting competition from the other State Championship teams in the Mid-Atlantic. Berlin finished 0-4 in regional play.
The Intermediates traveled to Long Island, New York to compete in the East Regional Tournament. After a week of phenomenal baseball, Berlin’s Intermediate All-Stars Managed by Cameron McDonough claimed the league’s first ever Regional Championship Banner! With their final win in New York, Berlin punched their ticket in the Intermediate World Series in California!
After jumping ahead of the competition with two consecutive victories to begin their World Series, Berlin ran into an extremely tough team from Arizona that handed Berlin their first defeat of the summer. That loss sent Berlin to the losers bracket where they met a skilled team from Texas. Berlin ultimately won the contest to clinch a berth in the United States Championship Game, a rematch against the powerhouse from Arizona.
In heartbreaking fashion, Berlin came up just short of their goal, losing once again the Arizona, who went on to win the World Championship.
The boys from Berlin had a phenomenal summer that will not soon be forgotten by anyone who considers themselves a fan of Berlin Little League.
