Our League

Berlin Little League League age cut off is April 30th of each year

Tee Ball – This division is open to boys & girls ages 4-6 years. Tee Ball is an instructional league in which children are taught the basic rules of baseball. There are no recorded outs and all players will bat each inning of 3 inning games. Team selection happens in early March, and games begin in April. The tee ball season consists of 10-12 games, played one night during the week and some Saturday mornings.

Rookie League (pitching machine) This division is open to boys & girls ages 6-8 years old. Rookie league is an instructional division of Little League minors. The rules of baseball are introduced and reinforced at this level. Children will be given 7 pitches from the machine, and if they fail to put a ball into play, they will be given 3 soft toss pitches by their coach. Strikeouts do not count as outs in this division. Players will field positions and outs will be recorded. There is a 4 run limit per inning (the final inning is 3 outs or bat the entire lineup) and games last 4 innings.  Teams are selected in early March and games begin in April. There are 12-15 games in their season. Games will be played on weeknights and some Saturday mornings.

Minor League This division is open to boys & girls ages 8-11 years old. This is a kid pitch instructional division in which children learn and practice the basic baseball skills they have been taught.Volunteers and coaches are used as umpires for regular season games. Outs are recorded and strikeouts do count as outs. There is a 5 run limit per inning; games last 5 innings.   The last inning will end by either 3 outs made or bat through the entire order, whichever happens first. Defensively, teams are allowed to field 4 outfielders. Players are required to come to evaluations prior to being placed on a team. Teams are drafted by coaches in an effort to balance teams within the league in early March. The season begins the second Saturday of April and consists of 12-15 games, ending in early June. Players ages 9 & 10 are eligible for the All Star team and will be selected by voting ballots decided by players and coaches. All Star teams are announced June 15th and compete locally through the month of July.

Major League This division is open to boys & girls ages 10-12 years old. This division is the central division in Little League Baseball that plays on 60 ft. bases, pitching from 46 feet. The major rule difference from minors that occurs in this next league is the dropped third strike rule, which allows children to advance on dropped third strikes. Defensively teams will field 9 players. Players are required to come to an evaluation prior to the team draft, which occurs in early March. Coaches will then draft teams to create balanced teams within the league. The season begins the second Saturday of April and consists of 12-15 games, ending in early June.  Regular season games have historically been played on Mondays and Wednesdays (and an occasional Friday). Team records and standings will be kept, as the winning team in the league will compete in post season play in the Tournament of Champions held by District 8Players ages 11 & 12 are eligible for the All Star team and will be selected by voting ballots decided by players and coaches. All Star teams are announced June 15th and compete locally through the month of July.

Intermediate League This new division is open to boys & girls ages 11*-13 years old (*11-12 year olds must be evaluated and approved to play in this division by the player’s agent). This league plays on 70-ft bases and pitchers pitch from 50 feet.  This division follows major league baseball rules, including leads/steals and balks. Players in this division may compete against teams within our district; some travel is involved within Worcester and Wicomico counties.  The schedule is created by District 8 officials and consists of 12-15 games, ending in early June. Regular season games have historically been played on Mondays and Wednesdays (and an occasional Friday).  Players are also eligible for the All Star team and will be selected by voting ballots decided by players and coaches. All Star teams are announced June 15th and complete locally through the month of July.

Junior League – This division is open to boys ages 13-15 years old and is played on a regulation sized baseball diamond of 90 ft. bases and 60 ft pitcher’s mound. Players will be drafted onto teams in early April, and the season will begin in early May. The schedule is created by District 8 officials and consists of 12-15 games that are always played on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Players in this division may compete against teams within our district; some travel is involved within Worcester and Wicomico counties.  Players are also eligible for the All Star team and will be selected by voting ballots decided by players and coaches. All Star teams are announced June 15th and complete through the month of July.

Senior League This division is open to boys ages 14-18 years old and is played on a regulation sized baseball diamond of 90 ft. bases and 60 ft pitcher’s mound. Players will be drafted onto teams in early April, and the season will begin in May. The schedule is created by District 8 officials and consists of 12-15 games. Teams will play other leagues within the District some travel will be involved.

Little League SoftballLeague age cut off is January 1st of each year

Coach Pitch Softball  This instructional division is open to girls ages 6-8 years old.  The focus is teaching the fundamental skills of softball and no official score is kept during games.  Games are 4 innings long and each half-inning is played to 3 outs or 4 runs scored, whichever comes first.  Batters will be given 7 coach-pitched balls and possibly up to 3 soft-toss balls.  Regular infield positions are used and there can be 4 or more outfielders.  Games start in Mid-April and the season ends in early June.  Teams will travel to other local leagues for some games and other games will be played at Berlin Little League on various fields.

Junior/Senior League Softball – These divisions are open to girls 12-16 years old.  High school rules are followed in this division.  Games will start in late-April/early May and run through early to mid-June.  Teams will travel to other local leagues for some games and other games will be played at Berlin Little League and Showell Park.  Eligible players can be selected for the district all-star team(s) which will compete from Mid-June through the month of July.  The all-star team is selected by player and coach vote at the end of the regular season.  The team is announced on June 1st.
